Is there pressure on business by law enforcement agencies? This was discussed at the 14th Kyiv Post CEO Breakfast, which was held on May 31 at InterContinental Kyiv. S&P Agency and DHL have traditionally become partners in the event.
Law enforcement agencies from prosecutors to the police without legitimate reasons harassed law-abiding enterprises closing their eyes to real crimes such as bribery or theft of intellectual property. This leads to a situation where companies that are trying to act transparently face barriers and are at a competitive disadvantage compared to those who ignore the rules with impunity.
Such a situation affect the positive image of Ukraine in the world business arena. The statistics confirm this eloquently: foreign direct investment in Ukraine amounts to only 2% of gross domestic product (GDP), and capital outflows from the country amount to 45% of GDP.
The participants of the 14th Kyiv Post CEO Breakfast discussed possible ways to improve the situation: the creation of a single law enforcement agency responsible for investigating all economic crimes and an independent judiciary.
